UK manufacturer Pressac achieves Apple accreditation
UK manufacturer, Pressac Communications Limited has received manufacturing accreditation from Apple. It has been awarded an Apple MFi Manufacturing License to produce Apple MFi approved devices, compatible with iPhone, iPod and iPad.
Pressac enrolled in the MFi Program and received an Apple System Review, earlier this year, conducted by independent third-party Deloitte. The manufacturer, headquartered in Nottingham, had to successfully demonstrate financial completeness, positive sales reporting, integrated systems and robust inventory management in order to meet the requirements of the audit.
As part of the process, the product development team were also shown key features of Apple’s MFi portal. Now Pressac has access to hardware components, tools, documentation, certification and logos needed to produce approved Apple compatible products and can manufacture Apple HomeKit enabled accessories.
Jamie Burbidge, Product Manager – Digital Solutions at Pressac said:
“Receiving accreditation from Apple is a significant achievement for our UK manufacturing capabilities. We are now able to procure Apple MFi authentication chips in volume and use them for manufacturing Apple approved products for customers that require data delivered to an iPad or other Apple device, such as HomeKit compatible smart home gateways.”
Apple HomeKit connects devices such as sensors, switches and actuators from various manufacturers and provides a single point of control for them all. Over 50 brands worldwide are committed to providing accessories that are compatible with the HomeKit framework and the number available is growing every day. Each of these accessories is reviewed and approved by Apple to help ensure security when it is used.
Jamie, added:
“The push to obtain the Apple MFi Manufacturing license was driven by the bespoke requirement of an existing customer for us to manufacture a HomeKit compatible gateway for use with a variety of devices using the EnOcean wireless protocol. It is already reaping further benefits for the business, as it has led to further discussion with customers about other smart building control and sensor products requiring Apple MFi authentication.”
